Greece Tour Itinerary

DAY 1 -Arrival in Athens

Our staff will meet you in Athens airport on arrival and transferred to your hotel. As you may be coming from a long distance you may wish to spend the day resting or you can participate an optional night tour in Athens with meal and traditional greek music. Overnight in Athens.

DAY 2 – Half Day Tour of Athens/ Afternoon at Leisure

Breakfast at the hotel and pick up for morning sightseeing tour of Athens’ most famous sights including a visit to the spectacular Acropolis and the new Acropolis museum. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Athens

Day 3-Tour of Mycenae and Epidaurus

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out with your luggages as we are commencing a 4 days trip to Mycenae, Epidaurus, Delphi, Olympia and Meteora. Pick up from your hotel at time specified. We will drive to Peloponnesus region. Our first stop will be on the famous Corinth Canal, a great architectural work offering a passage from the Saronic Gulf to the Gulf of Corinth and there to the Ionian Sea, saving lots of time for navigation of the ships between.

Then, crossing the fields filled with orange and lemon trees of the Argolis, we head towards Epidaurus, ancient city-state famous for its sanctuary dedicated to Asclepius, the god of medicine in classical Greece. Admire the Theatre of Epidaurus which is famous and the best known in ancient world for its amazing acoustics composed of a circular orchestra (the scene) surrounded by steps in horseshoe, divided in two levels by a corridor called diazoma.

The acoustics of the Theater of Epidaurus is exceptional, it allows the spectators to hear the voices of the actors even speaking in low voice. It is believed that this theater could hold up to a total of 14,000 spectators which makes it one of the oldest theaters with more capacity. After the visit of the museum we went towards Olimpia crossing the mountainous region of Arcadia.

We will continue our visit to the ancient city of Mycenae. Homeric city of enormous importance in antiquity, where it developed one of the most significant cultures of ancient Greece. The entrance to the royal citadel is carried out by the Gate of Lions, the oldest exhibition of monumental sculpture in Europe. In the interior we will see the Royal Tombs, the whole of the Palace and houses of high dignitaries, as well as other important constructions. Continue to visit a monumental tomb called Tomb of Agamemnon, where the archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann discovered the spectacular Treasure of Atreus (one of the most emblematic pieces, the gold mask, can be admired along with the rest of the treasure in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens). Continue to Olimpia where we will arrive in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight in the hotel.

Day 4- Olympia to Delphi Tour

After breakfast, we will visit the archaeological site of ancient Olympia. This important city of ancient Greece was hosting several athletic competitions periodically every 4 year in the Hellenic World.  Olympia was also famous as a religious center as there was one of the most important sanctuaries of ancient Greece known for its gigantic statue of Zeus made by Phidias ingold and ivory but unfortunately nothing remains today. It was carved to commemorate the victory over the Persians and was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Near the temple, thanks to the archaeological excavations, the workshop of Phidias has been found with numerous tools of the sculptor. We will also see many other important remnants Prytaneion, Gymnasium, the Stadium and Archaeological Museum as well. Drive back to our hotel in Delphi. Dinner and overnight in Delphi.

Day 5- Travel Delphi to Kalambaka

Following early breakfast at the hotel, depart from Delphi, we will reach the skirts of Mount Parnassus to the north of Gulf Corinth, where impressive Oracle of Delphi is located, one of the wonders of Ancient Classical Greece as well. We will visit the Oracle of Delphi which was a large sacred site dedicated mainly to the god Apollo. In the center of the temple the Greeks used to come to ask the gods about their questions.

Mount Parnassus is the main source of  several springs. One of the most well-known was the Castalia Fountain, surrounded by a grove of laurel trees consecrated to Apollo. Legend and mythology tell that on Mount Parnassus and near this fountain there were some deities, lesser goddesses used to get together with the nymphs of the fountain called naiads. In these meetings Apollo played the lyre and the divinities used to singing songs and poems. Then we will leave behind the archaeological site to visit the magnificent Museum of Delphi. Dinner and overnight in Kalambaka. 

Day 6- Kalambaka Meteora Thermopylae Athens

Breakfast served at the hotel and departure with our luggages at time indicated. Commence the day with visiting two of the most important monasteries of the region. This area has been a monastic centre in the mid of 11th century. Monasteries nestled on the peaks of the rocks has an impressive views enable contemplations but also austere monastic way of life away from crowds and isolated enough necessary to pray, to seek spirituality. We will admire as a short time visitor to this magnificent conjunction of nature and man made buildings reflecting retreat, peace and tranquility.

We will make a complete visit of this fantastic place seeing beautiful paintings to the fresco, as well as original icons crafted by monks. Then return to Athens with a brief stop at the Thermopylae Pass, the monument dedicated to the Spartan King Leonidas, who with his 300 warriors fought the famous battle against the Persian invaders. Arrival in Athens in the afternoon. Check in our hotel.

Day 7- Transfer to airport

Transfer to airport 3,5 hours before your flight schedule. 

Note: This trip can be extended with Greek Islands Hopping Tours as well as more days with tours in Turkey and maybe in Jerusalem Holy Land.
